Coveris Burnley expands HD print offer with new state-of-the-art press

Meeting growing demands for next generation flexible print quality, Coveris is investing over £3m in a new state-of-the-art Flexo press and conversion infrastructure at its HD print hub in Burnley, UK.

Following the Group’s recent announcement of a major press investment at its Louth films facility, the business is continuing to invest in the future of wide web flexo print with its latest purchase at Coveris Burnley.

Delivering award-winning print quality at high-speed efficiencies, the new press is optimised with 100% inspection camera system for runs of up to 500m/min. Equipped with rapid, automated setup, changeover, drying and wash-up technologies, the new ultra-lean press fully supports Coveris’ vision of No Waste, delivering a 10% reduction in energy as well as material, make-ready and ink savings.

Increasing Burnley’s HD print capacity by over 25% to meet growing customer demand, the new press is currently being installed and is expected to be fully operational by September 2024. The new investment will sit alongside the site’s existing portfolio to seamlessly drive standardisation of advanced quality flexo.

Speciality conversion capabilities are also being expanded as part of Burnley’s investment plans to support growth of high-performance, sustainable barrier and paper films for bakery, confectionery and fresh food film markets. Added to this, major R&D is also being channelled into nextgen plate technology alongside Coveris’ graphics service partner, Rivendell to support the business’ total graphics management offer.

Proving its expertise in print, Coveris Flexibles have recently achieved three Gold Awards at the highly prestigious FIA UK awards, showcasing excellence in flexographic print, brand management and technical innovation. The business received the awards for its Little Moons Mochi Ice Cream lidding film, ASDA Extra Special White Sourdough and Goldsteig Almdammer am Stück. Coveris Flexibles also received two Bronze Awards and a Highly Commended including the Best use of Extended Colour Gamut special category for Muller Corners Apricot & Peach and M&S outrageously chocolate coated custard cream designs.

Commenting on the news, Steven Hinchly, Managing Director of Coveris’ UK Flexibles business said “having received our recent FIA UK wins, timing could not be better to announce our plans to expand our award-winning HD print offer. This latest investment allows us to deliver leading quality, more efficiently and sustainably than ever before for our customers, whilst also futureproofing our business for further expansion into new and existing markets through our commitment to best-in-class print.”
